Yemanjá 💦

The Goddess of all that flows.

The African goddess associated with the moon, water, and feminine mysteries.

💦

I am an ocean of creative energy.

I give birth to what exists within me.

Yemanjá is a Candomblé Orixa, the African goddess of the Ocean, who gave birth to all gods and goddesses in the Yoruba tradition. Yemanjá’s home is the Ogun River in Nigeria but she is worshipped at any ocean or in any flowing body of water.

She is caring and nurturing yet also fiercely protective and strong with a desire to relieve her children of any struggles and sorrows. She is considered to be a mermaid whose power flows through all forms of water.

She’s the Queen of the Ocean, the ruler of the unconscious. As the mother of all, she is the energy that brings new life into this world.

Every February 2, thousands of people line up at dawn to leave their offerings at her shrine in Rio Vermelho.

Invoking her energy creates flow where before there was a block. She brings creativity to life. She helps us dive deep into our unconscious to bring light into the unseen. As the queen of the ocean, she baptizes us to start over. She wants to clean us from thoughts that hold us back.

Today is a great opportunity to get our bodies submerged in water. The ocean, a pool, or a warm bath. Water is the first and most primal element. The return to the womb. The freedom of buoyancy that allows us to release what does not serve us.

We honor you Yemanjá!

If you ever lose your earrings or jewels during a dip in the sea, consider it a gift for the goddess!
